Born and raised in Randwick, Billie started dancing at the age of five and hasn’t stopped since – going to dance classes and also developing her own routines at home, perfecting moves with feedback from friends.
By Year 10 she knew she wanted to teach, and both her Dance and Sport teachers happened to have trained at ACPE and recommended it to her – saying it would suit both her interests and positive personality.
“ACPE was kind of my dream uni,” Billie said.
“I didn’t really want to go anywhere else – just having those open conversations with teachers was really good.”
She enrolled in the Bachelor of Dance Education, but after discovering how much she enjoyed the health units in first year, decided to transfer to the Bachelor of Education (Physical and Health Education) at ACPE – made easy because of the support from the ACPE staff.
Dance remains a passion, but has become something she can pursue in her own time, rather than choosing to become a dance teacher and the new degree means she will be able to teach health science as well as PDHPE.
“I find the lecturers really helpful, they give us an endless amount of resources and the lecture notes go into a lot of detail, so we are able to get a better knowledge of the content,” Billie said.
“I would highly recommend ACPE to a dancer or somebody wanting to study sport or health.”
